We all need to stock up on food at the grocery store from time to time, whether we go in with a list or just buy whatever we want. The foods you buy for your kitchen have a big effect on your health, so it’s important to make smart choices.
And if you’re just starting to get fit or want to keep your weight in check, it can be hard to know which foods to buy and which ones to avoid. So, we’re here to help you out with some advice from experts.

White bread
Most grocery lists always have bread on them. But Richards says that if you don’t want to gain weight, you should be careful about what kind of bread you buy. White bread is one of the worst things you can eat for your health in general, especially if you are trying to lose weight.
She says that this kind of bread and other foods made with refined carbs are “bad for our health in many ways, and belly fat is just one of them.”
This is because they are made with highly processed ingredients that have “gone through a refining process where the fiber and beneficial nutrients are removed and possibly replaced with synthetic versions.” This can have serious effects on your health over time, including “quick sugar spikes and inflammation, both of which stop weight loss and hurt health.”
Yikes! So, it’s best to stick to whole-wheat options, which also have more fiber and will keep you fuller for longer. Everyone wins.

Chips
If you go grocery shopping when you’re hungry, you might be tempted to buy snacks that are too sweet or too salty. Unfortunately, though, most of these processed foods are bad for your health and can make it harder for you to lose weight. Wen says that potato chips are among the worst offenders.
“Many chips are fried in unhealthy oils and covered in salt, which makes them very high in calories and unhealthy fats,” she says. This snack has a lot of fat and calories, and it has “little to no fiber.” This means that it won’t keep you full for very long, which could make you eat too much later in the day.
And everyone knows that if you want to lose weight, you should never, ever overeat. Because of this, it’s better to snack on things that are healthier and fill you up more. Choose foods with a lot of fiber and protein; your body will thank you in the long run.
Overall, if you want to stay healthy and lose weight, you need to stay away from highly processed foods made with refined ingredients. Even if you treat yourself once in a while, it’s best to leave these things out of your grocery cart as much as possible.
