Who is Melissa Missy?
Melissa “Missy” Arnette Elliott was born in Virginia on July 1, 1971, in the city of Portsmouth. She is the only child of Patricia Elliott, who works for a power company, and Ronnie Elliott, who used to be in the Marines. Her family went to church a lot, and she started singing in the church choir when she was young.
While her father was still in the Marines, the family lived in Jacksonville, North Carolina, but they eventually moved back to Virginia. The group made some demo tracks, one of which was called “First Move.” In 1991, she got the attention of DeVante, a member of Jodeci and a producer. He asked her to sing for him backstage at a Jodeci concert.
DeVante helped her move to New York, where she signed with Elektra Records. Timbaland and Barcliff were given the name “Sista” when they were born. Elliott started to write and rap for Raven-first Symone’s single, “That’s What Little Girls Are Made Of,” which came out in 1993.

Elliott made the best Sista album with the help of her friends. It’s called “4 All the Sistas Around Da World.” The album was never put out, though. She started to work more with her friend Timbaland, who was a producer and a songwriter for Aaliyah, Nicole Wray, Destiny’s Child, and other big singing stars.
Elliott’s compilation album, “Respect M.E.,” came out in 2006. It was put out by the Atlantic Records label. She went on a huge, two-part tour in 2010 that took her to different parts of Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa.
