The United States has approved sanctions against the daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin after several Russian leaders and officials were banned. The US Treasury has identified Putin’s daughters as Katarina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontova.

Who are Katrina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontova?
According to media reports, Katrina is a technical executive whose job is to support the Russian defense industry. Maria leads the government’s genetic research program, which is personally overseen by Vladimir Putin. According to the Kremlin website, Maria is the eldest daughter and was born in 1985 and Katrina in 1986.

A report says that Maria Vorontova is the owner of a company named Nomenko. The company is involved in a large-scale private investment project in Russia’s healthcare. Katarina Tikhonova is a former competitive dancer who now runs the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Moscow State University.

“I don’t know what my daughters do,” Putin told the media in 2015. There are many reasons behind this and safety is the most important. He lives his life with dignity. Earlier in 2014, he had said that due to my busy schedule, I am able to see my daughters only once or twice in a month.

Trying to annoy Putin?
The ban on Putin’s daughters, Katrina and Maria, may be a symbolic move, as it is not clear how much of their wealth is outside Russia. Experts say it was designed to attract Putin’s attention.
