According to a statement from his campaign, Former President Trump has amassed over $6.5 million in funds for his reelection campaign since his arraignment on federal charges.
Following his plea of not guilty to 37 felony charges, including mishandling classified information, at a federal court appearance in Miami, Trump raised over $2 million during a dinner held at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Additionally, Trump’s campaign reported receiving $4.5 million in online donations from supporters. The fundraising dinner in Bedminster marked the first significant event of its kind for the former president in the 2024 election cycle.
In the campaign statement, Trump’s team reiterated his assertion that the charges against him are politically motivated. They referred to special counsel Jack Smith as “deranged” and accused him of weaponizing the justice system.
The statement also emphasized that the American people would not tolerate what they perceive as a corrupt attempt to interfere with the 2024 election, especially against the front-runner candidate who promises to address the Deep State and continue efforts to eliminate corruption.
The Justice Department alleges that Trump unlawfully obtained and retained records from his presidency at his Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida.
Furthermore, it claims that he attempted to conceal these records when subpoenaed. The department’s accusation also includes the claim that Trump showed some classified records to guests at his residence and acknowledged their classified status.
Despite the indictment, recent polls indicate that Trump remains the favored candidate for the 2024 GOP nomination. However, he narrowly trails President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.
