Even though development of Tomb Raider 2 was moving along at a snail’s pace, it was nonetheless unexpected when the sequel was finally scrapped in July of 2022. According to the rumors, MGM had until May 2022 to green light a sequel or risk losing the rights to the property.
The sequel did not receive the official go-ahead from the studio, which resulted in a fierce competition among Hollywood studios to win the rights to the series.
We are still waiting to hear whether any studio picked them up, but if a new Tomb Raider movie does happen, would it be a continuation of the previous films or will it be a reboot of the franchise? The second instalment of the Tomb Raider series is covered in detail here.
Brief Information About Tomb Raider 2
Name – Tomb Raider 2
Director – Misha Green

Tomb Raider 2 Release Date – Yet To Be Confirmed
Potential Release Date of Tomb Raider 2
When the production of the sequel was postponed indefinitely in October 2020, we had some anxiety; however, when Misha Green was brought on as the new writer and director in January 2021, we believed that things were getting back on track.
Nevertheless, after Alicia Vikander provided a disheartening update in July 2022, it was only a short time after when it was rumored that the sequel had been completely shelved as a result of MGM losing the rights to the series.
Cast and Characters of Tomb Raider 2
As of precisely this moment, nobody at all according to all accounts. We had previously anticipated that Alicia Vikander would reprise her role as Lara Croft, but it now appears that this will not be the case.
It also means that the next movie, should it be made, will not feature any of the actors who appeared in the 2018 film, including Kristin Scott Thomas as Ana Miller, Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, Dominic West as Lara Croft’s father Lord Richard Croft, and anyone else who was in that film.
Misha Green was in talks to write and direct the follow-up instalment behind the scenes. In May of 2021, she announced that the first draught of the sequel, which would later be given the title Tomb Raider: Obsidian, was complete.
However, according to the most recent reports, Green does not appear to be tied to the project any longer. However, it is possible that she will be involved in the reboot.
The Plot: Expected Storyline of Tomb Raider 2
The initial notion that the sequel would continue the plot of the first film served as the foundation for everything that came after. However, you can disregard everything if Lara’s subsequent film is a complete reboot.
Here’s what we anticipated from the sequel, however, on the off chance that it won’t be a complete revamp. Lara went to London and took a job at her father’s business after saving the world and preventing the deadly virus from escaping the tomb.
She soon learned, though, that Croft Holdings and Trinity, the organization that sought to spread the virus, were connected through Trinity’s parent company Patna. The CEO of Patna is Ana Miller, Lara’s father’s business partner. Lara discovers that Ana collaborated with Vogel and Trinity throughout the entirety of their operation.
In order to continue her father’s mission to stop Trinity, Lara purchases the recognizable twin weapons from the video game in the credits scene.
It is unknown whether Lara’s conflict with Trinity will be continued in the sequel, but there is also the possibility that the sequel will simply introduce Lara to a new tomb and quest, completely unrelated to the events of the first film.
Given that the 2013 revival of the gaming brand by Crystal Dynamics heavily influenced the first film, it may potentially draw inspiration from the Rise of the Tomb Raider video game sequel.
In that game, Lara visits the lost city of Kitezh as a result of her father’s investigation into immortality and a supernatural MacGuffin known as the Divine Source that has the power to bestow it.
Is There Any Official Trailer of Tomb Raider 2?
