The legendary Tina Turner, who was known as the “Queen of Rock and Roll,” has died at the age of 83. The gifted songstress was behind hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” “The Best,” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero.” She famously exited a deeply abusive relationship with her longtime collaborator and partner Ike Turner, only to stage one of the most spectacular musical comebacks in history.

Tina never allowed her rough life to define her. Sadly, she died at the age of 83, leaving behind a life that was difficult at times but ultimately well-loved. Here’s all we know about Tina Turner’s death.

What Was Tina Turner’s Cause of Death?

Tina Turner passed away after a long illness. Her health had deteriorated since being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016, which was followed by a kidney transplant in 2017. “There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family,” her publicist explained. “Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time.”

Tina Turner Was an Unbelievable Artist

Tina Turner overcame years of abuse at the hands of her ex-husband and bandmate Ike Turner. When John died in December 2007, she treated his death with the same respect she had shown him when they were still together, and she was right to do so. “Ike died earlier today, and Tina is aware of it.” She hasn’t communicated with him in 35 years. “There will be no further comment,” her then-spokesperson added. And that’s all the time we’re going to give him here.

She went on to have one of the most incredible comebacks in history, demonstrating to the world that certain things are simply too vital to give up. Tina also became a Buddhist, which she discovered nourished her soul. She told the Harvard Business Review in 2021, “Of everything I’ve done to succeed as an artist, spirituality has had the greatest influence.”

Her honors and achievements are numerous and impressive. She received 12 Grammy nominations, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Kennedy Center Honors, and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There is even a Guinness World Record nomination for once appearing in front of the largest audience as a solo artist. There was nothing she couldn’t do, and she appeared to do it all.

Tina devoted more time to her faith once she retired from performing. Retirement has allowed her to “spend time just being.” Tina stated that finding a purpose and the ability to convert the negative into a positive offered her delight when asked if she found happiness, a tricky topic. Can others follow suit? “I’m not a superhuman,” Tina admitted. “I’m just a girl from Nutbush, Tennessee.” If I can achieve it, so can we.”
