The struggle of the transgender community is paying off, the first public transgender toilet to be built at this place
People of Kinnar society are constantly fighting for their identity and their rights and now their efforts are paying off. Slowly but surely they are getting their place in the society. The first transgender toilet built in Mumbai is an example.
Kinnar society has been facing discrimination for many years. People of Kinnar Samaj are continuously fighting for their existence and their rights. But even today they have neither got equal status in the society nor do they have a share in basic facilities including toilets. In today’s modern era, LGBTQ community is also struggling for basic amenities like toilets.
It is also said that those who try do not lose. So now the struggle of this community has started getting heavy. A toilet has been constructed for the transgender community in Goregaon area of Mumbai. So that they do not face any kind of trouble and their dignity is maintained. This toilet is the first transgender toilet in Maharashtra.
Transgender people have the right to basic facilities
Under the NALSA judgment of the Supreme Court and the Transgender Persons Act, 2019, transgender people have the right to basic facilities like right to education, voting, Aadhar card etc. and all these facilities should be provided to them by the government.
In addition, they are entitled to a clean and safe toilet. But till date this has not happened in Mumbai. Some companies have introduced the concept of gender neutral washroom, but so far this has not happened in public. However, now it has started and this toilet is the best example of that.
