April 11 is celebrated as National Safe Motherhood Day across the country. The celebration of Safe Motherhood Day was started in the year 2006 with the auspicious intention of truly dedicating the birth of Kasturba Gadhi to the mothers of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi has decided to reduce maternal mortality in the country by launching “Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan” across the country in the year 2018.
The State Government has taken steps to ensure quality health services and nutritious food and hygienic care to adolescents and pregnant women.
In the budget of the year 2022-23, the Health Department has also made a separate provision in the budget.
For providing nutritious food to pregnant and lactating mothers and children under the Malnourished Mother-Healthy Child Scheme, Rs. 811 crore has been made.
The service-oriented institutions of the state have also volunteered in the service of reducing maternal mortality from the state.
The camp is organized by a charitable organization in Ahmedabad to check the health of poor adolescents in the city and make them anemia free and reduce maternal mortality.
Health check-up of around 300 adolescents was conducted at Ahmedabad Rotary Club-Airport and Gandhi Ashram as a pilot project to check the prevalence of anemia among poor adolescents with service-oriented organization Manav Sadhna. In which the blood report of the teenagers was taken. About 80% of adolescents had low hemoglobin levels and symptoms of anemia. Medicines are also given by this institution to the adolescents suffering from anemia between 3 to 6 months.
