In anticipation of its release next week, Disney/Black Marvel’s Panther: Wakanda Forever continued its promotional tour on Sunday evening with a historic premiere in Lagos, Nigeria.
This was a significant event, and the first time a Marvel film had a local premiere, with a large number of talent, filmmakers, and press present for the black carpet rollout. Multiple screens at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX Lekki screened the sequel to the $1.348,000,000,000-grossing film.
The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, as well as stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Winston Duke, and Michaela Coel were present on Sunday. In addition to other musicians and producers who worked on the soundtrack, producer Nate Moore was present.

Recently, Chioma Ude, the founder of AFRIFF (which will take place from November 6-12 and where Ryan Coogler will give a masterclass on Monday), reflected on the significance of the African premiere taking place in Nigeria and its association with the festival.
“We are thrilled and honored to be participating in the premiere of this landmark film in Africa. This is monumental for the continent of Africa, as it signifies further convergence of the global film industries, she said.
The original Black Panther movie is still regarded as the best movie in both East and West African countries. In 2018, it made its debut across the continent in Johannesburg, which is located in South Africa.
Wakanda Forever is distributed in English West African territories by FilmOne Entertainment, whose co-founders Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa stated, “Being instrumental to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in West Africa is a proud achievement and a milestone for us and the entire FilmOne team, and it will be celebrated for a very long time.”
Wakanda Forever opens on November 11 in Nigeria, concurrently with the United States. The international launch begins on November 9 in France, among other countries, and continues through the weekend.
