Stock market | Sensex down 400 points, Nifty down 17,690 in early trade

Mumbai The benchmark Sensex fell nearly 400 points in early trade on Monday on weakness in both Infosys, Reliance Industries and HDFC amid a weak trend in Asian markets. The Sensex was down 398.98 points at 59,048.20 in early trade, while the Nifty was down 94.6 points at 17,689.75.

HCL Technology, Infosys, Wipro, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, M&M, HDFC and HDFC Bank were among the big losers in the Sensex. Shares of NTPC, Power Grid Corporation, Tata Steel and State Bank of India, on the other hand, rose. In Asian markets, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo were green in mid-session deals.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 2.39 percent to 100.32 a barrel. According to provisional data from the stock market, foreign institutional investors on Friday traded at Rs. 575.04 crore shares were sold. (Agency)
