Sri Lankan Navy has recently arrested 12 fishermen from Rameswaram. Now it is reported that a Sri Lankan court has fixed his release at Rs 1 crore each. However, the decision of the neighboring country’s court has heated up politics in India. People from Sri Lanka, who are facing economic crisis, keep coming to India. Sri Lanka is facing its worst economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1948.

According to a report, “We are shocked to hear that the court has fixed Rs 1 crore per fisherman for release. How can a fisherman collect Rs 1 crore? If he had this money, he would be in this business. Does not come. About 85 Indian boats are still in Sri Lankan possession. Makkal Nidhi Mayyam’s chief and actor Kamal Haasan has also expressed surprise over the court’s decision.

According to the report, Rameshwaram Fishermen’s Association president Devdas said, “India and Sri Lanka have strong bilateral ties. Even after this we see that there is no other country other than Sri Lanka which treats the fishermen who are fighting for their livelihood like this. Is the Indian government seeing this as a spectator? Our fishermen were caught by Sri Lanka and that too while the Indian External Affairs Minister is on a diplomatic visit there. The rate of release is like salt on a wound. There is an annual ban on fishing, diesel prices have increased fishing prices and now this.’

He also pointed out that Kachatheevu Island, which is currently under the control of Sri Lanka, is a major reason for fishermen in Tamil Nadu. Like in Rameshwaram district, fishermen from Tamil Nadu also go here.

According to the website, “this unusual amount can only mean that the Sri Lankan government expects that the security deposit will not be paid.” They should note that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is working hard to send relief to Sri Lanka and especially the northern parts of Sri Lanka. This incredible amount will be of no use as a security deposit. He said the Tamil Nadu government would try to resolve the issue through diplomatic channels.
