Rape case: CBI probes accused’s house by breaking the lock

The CBI team on Thursday searched the house of the main accused in the Hunkhali gang rape case.

A CBI official said this on Thursday.

He said the team collected samples from the house where the alleged gang rape took place on April 4 and then locked the house.

He said the CBI team was accompanied by staff from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and the entire search operation and evidence gathering process was videographed.

The search operation was going on till late Thursday night due to power outage in the area.

The CBI is probing the case on the directions of the Calcutta High Court and the main accused in the case is the son of a Trinamool Congress leader Hanskhali Panchayat.

“Search of the house was delayed due to power outage. We have collected several samples from the room where the alleged crime took place. They will be sent for forensic examination.”

During the CBI search, the local people contacted the team and claimed that the family and associates of the accused were intimidating the people of the area. He also asked for his safety.

The district police have arrested the main accused in the case Sohail Goyli and his friend Prabhakar Poddar.

The CBI team also includes two women officers, the official said. The team is expected to continue the search operation on Friday.

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reached Hanskhali on Wednesday night and went to Hanskhali police station and seized the case diary and other documents related to the investigation.

“We will meet the girl’s father on Friday and record her statement,” a CIA official said.

The hospitalized father claimed on Wednesday that the accused snatched his daughter’s body and cremated her fearing weapons.

The girl’s parents allege that they have been threatened with dire consequences if they report the matter to the police.

A Class 9 student was killed after she was allegedly gang-raped at a party on April 4. The victim’s family had lodged a police complaint on April 10.
