Our Flag Means Death, David Jenkins’ new pirate-themed sitcom, premiered in March 2022. We’ve seen Krakens, seaworthy romances, and even good ol’ scurvy so far on the episode. In addition, we received a cliffhanger so tense that it left pirate lovers demanding more.
The comedic series Our Flag Means Death chronicles the exploits of Stede Bonnet, a nobleman who leaves his family behind to join the pirate life in 1717. However, he isn’t exactly born to Swashbuckle, which leads to a rowdy crew, encounters with naval warships, and eventually a meeting with Taika Waititi’s Blackbeard.
Fortunately, Blackbeard develops feelings for Stede, and the two eventually become inseparable. Love isn’t simple, though, and the conclusion of Our Flag Means Death’s first season featured a lot of confusion and a broken heart.
Here’s the latest on when you can expect to see Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death.
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Release Date
We have no information on the premiere date of Our Flag Means Death Season 2. Fortunately, we can be assured that a second season is on the road, and we’re putting our money on it arriving in 2023.
Star Samba Schutte and creator David Jenkins announced on December 13, 2022, that filming for Season 2 was complete, so we shouldn’t have to wait long for its premiere.
Who Will Be Returning for Season 2 of “Our Flag Means Death”?
Rhys Darby will reprise his role as Stede Bonnet, and Taika Waititi will play Ed Teach/Blackbeard. The two New Zealand-born actors have been friends for almost 20 years and worked together in the comedy Flight of the Conchords in 2007.
Darby has amassed an impressive resume of guest-starring and supporting parts in comedic films including Wrecked and the 2017 and 2019 Jumanji films. Next Goal Wins, a film by Waititi, will be released in November of this year, and he will have a role in it.
On the other hand, Waititi has been keeping himself busy as of late with films like Thor: Love and Thunder and Reservation Dogs, for which he served as both director and writer. There will be a new Star Wars movie with him at the helm in 2025. A live-action film adaptation of Akira is also in the works, as is a series for Apple TV called Time Bandits.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Possible Story
At the end of the first season, some interesting things happened that set up a lot for the second season. Stede and Ed recently broke up after sharing their true feelings for one another. Stede, however, went back to see his ex-wife and kids in order to put that chapter of his life to rest.
He was last seen rescuing the Revenge crew from an island while aboard a dinghy. Meanwhile, Ed is so devastated by Stede’s betrayal that he has resorted to using his fearsome “Kraken” moniker. With his crew (including Frenchie and Jim, whom he isolated from the rest of the ship’s crew), he now commands the Revenge and plans to wreak havoc on the seas once more.
Stede and Ed’s reconciliation at the end of Season 2 will be the season’s most anticipated event. Their love story has become an integral part of the show, and viewers can’t help but root for them. Celebrity cameos from the likes of Leslie Jones (Ghostbusters), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) bode well for a second season full of laughs.
