Los Angeles:The Academy of Motion Picture Arts has banned actor Will Smith from attending an Oscar or other academy event for 10 years for slapping host Chris Rock at an Oscar Awards ceremony. However, it is not clear at this time whether he will be nominated for the award in the future.
In a statement, the academy said, “The 94th Oscar Awards ceremony was held for many in our community who have done incredible work over the past year. However, Smith’s unacceptable and misbehavior spoiled those moments.” I respect the decision of the Academy. He resigned from the academy last week. In an earlier meeting, the academy said Smith’s actions violated its code of conduct, stating that “inappropriate physical contact, abuse or intimidation is against the academy’s reputation.”
The academy also apologized to Chris Rock. At the Oscar Awards on March 27, The Rock made fun of Smith’s wife and actress Jada Pickett Smith when she presented the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary. Smith then slapped Rock on stage, one of the most shocking events in Oscar history. At the ceremony, Smith was awarded the Best Actor award for his strong performance in “King Richard”.
