Okinawa has announced the recall of its electric scooters. The company will be recalling 3215 units of its Price Pro scooter. Electric two-wheeler company Okinawa Autotech has recalled its electric scooter for the first time. The e-scooter maker said it will recall 3,215 units of Praz-Pro scooters with immediate effect to fix any battery-related issues. The recall was part of its investigation process, the company said in a statement on Saturday. As part of the recall, the scooter will be checked for loose connectors or any damage. In addition, the electric scooters will be tested and repaired at authorized Okinawa dealerships across India.
Such incidents have happened before
Several Okinawa scooters have caught fire in the past as well. In the meantime, this thing came to mind. Earlier this week, three new and a total of three Okinawa models caught fire in Tiruppur. Last month, a man and his 13-year-old daughter were killed when an Okinawa electric scooter caught fire.
The commission’s CEO Amitabh Kant had made this recall in view of the fire incident in the electric scooter. Amitabh Kant has asked EV makers to recall the e-scooter model that caught fire. “Now is the time for the EV industry to instil a sense of trust among consumers,” Kant said. Kant said this in a media interview last week.
Also 20 e-scooters caught fire
Apart from Okinawa, several other brands of e-scooters have reportedly come under fire, triggering an investigation. A fire broke out after 20 electric scooters of Nashik-based Jitendra EV Tech were loaded into a transport container. However, no injuries have been reported.
The company said it is investigating the cause of the fire.
Okinawa said it is working with dealer partners to make sure. Repair work will be done as per the convenience of the customers. For this the vehicle owners will be personally contacted.
