On an average, a new form of corona virus is emerging every four months. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the corona epidemic is not over. Once again the havoc of Corona is spreading in Asia. Guterres called on governments and pharma companies to work together to make vaccines accessible to everyone, everywhere. For the GAVI COVAX Advance Market Commitment Summit 2022, Guterres released the video message ‘One World Protected – Break Covid Now’. In which he made it clear that the corona epidemic is not over yet.
“We are seeing 1.5 million new cases every day,” he said. The havoc of Corona is spreading in Asia too. A new wave is spreading across Europe. He said some countries are reporting the highest death rates since the start of the pandemic.
‘A third still uneducated’
Guterres said the Omicon version of the coronavirus showed how fast COVID-19 can spread, especially in the absence of high vaccination coverage. He lamented that some wealthy countries were preparing for their second booster dose, but a third had not yet been vaccinated.
‘70% vaccination coverage off target’
Guterres said that this is a cruel example of our unequal world. This would prepare the ground for the development of new species, leading to more deaths and increasing human and economic misery. He said it would not be appropriate to ask questions about when, why and where about the new version. “We are on track to reach 70 percent vaccination coverage in each country by the middle of this year,” he said.
