Palak biryani or palak pulao is not as popular as other biryani or pulao dishes, but it is not inferior to them in terms of taste. Spinach is very nutritious and rich in iron. Feed your kids this delicious vegetarian biryani and we are sure they won’t refuse it.

Ingredients for Palak Biryani recipe

2 cups basmati rice
1/2 tsp garlic paste
Ghee 2 spoons
2 cinnamon sticks
2 black cardamoms
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon red chili powder
Turmeric 1 tsp
Fennel seeds 1 tsp
2 pinch asafoetida
Mint leaves as required
1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
Water as needed
Salt as needed
4 green cardamoms
4 cloves of garlic
2 pinch mace
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
Coriander powder 1 tsp
1 bunch of spinach
1/2 handful green coriander

How to make Palak Biryani recipe

To make this easy biryani, wash the rice and soak it for 30 minutes. Then pressure cook the rice in 2 cups water with little salt. Meanwhile, wash the spinach carefully under running water.

Now cut it and keep it in a separate container. Also wash the mint and coriander leaves. Now add chopped spinach leaves along with mint and green coriander in the blender. Blend to make a smooth paste.

Heat ghee in a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add ginger and garlic paste, cinnamon sticks, green and black cardamom, cloves, bay leaves, mace, red chili powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder and coriander powder.

Fry the ingredients in the pan while stirring constantly.

Now in the same pan add the paste you made in the first step. Mix well on medium flame. Now check the rice. When ready, add it to the pan and stir well.

Now sprinkle some salt on it. Pour some water into the pan and cover it with a lid. Simmer on medium heat for five to ten minutes, until the rice is soaked in the spices and water. Remove the lid and your palak biryani is ready.

Garnish with dried red chillies and garlic slices. Serve hot.
