Local Health Authority in China Claims That 90% of the Population Has Been Infected With COVID-19!!

Based on information from the central Henan health commission, 88 million people in the province may have had the virus.

A top local official has said that nearly 90% of the people in China’s third most populous province have now been infected with Covid-19. This comes as the country is dealing with an unprecedented rise in cases. At a press conference, Kan Quancheng, who is in charge of the health commission for central Henan province, said, “As of January 6, 2023, the Covid infection rate in the province is 89%.”

With a population of 99.4 million, the numbers show that about 88.5 million people in Henan may now be infected. Kan said that most people went to fever clinics on December 19, after which they kept going down.

The opening of China’s borders on Sunday was one of the last steps at the end of the country’s zero-Covid policy, which started last month after historic protests and has led to a huge wave of infections.

As the country celebrates the lunar new year at the end of this month, millions of people will travel from big cities to visit vulnerable older relatives in the countryside. This will cause the number of covid cases to rise even more.

State media reported that 34.7 million people went on domestic trips on Saturday, which is more than a third more than last year. This was the first wave of travel before the holidays.

Beijing’s decision to drop quarantine requirements is likely to increase travel outside of China. However, many countries are asking visitors from China to take tests to make sure they don’t have an outbreak that is overwhelming many hospitals and crematoriums in China. As of January 8, China had only reported 5,272 deaths from Covid. This is one of the lowest death rates in the world for this infection.

But the World Health Organization says China isn’t telling the truth about how bad the outbreak is, and international health experts say more than 1 million people in China could die from the disease this year.

China’s top health officials and state media have said over and over again that Covid infections are at their highest point in the whole country, and they are downplaying the threat that the disease poses right now.

In an editorial published on Sunday, the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist party, said that the government’s virus policies had changed from “preventing infection” to “preventing severe disease.”
