Google continues to ban apps due to security concerns. Google has once again banned many apps. It also includes popular Muslim prayer apps. These apps were downloaded over 1 million times.
Google has also banned the barcode scanner and the Watch app. According to reports, Google has banned more than a dozen apps from the Play Store. It is being said that these apps are collecting user data.
The researcher said that several apps contained malware from which user personal information and other data were obtained. The Wall Street Journal reports that when users installed such apps on their phones, they were capturing the device as well as users’ data.
It also includes information such as phone number and email address. The malware code was discovered by Serge Eagleman and Joel Reardon of Epsense. AppCensus examines mobile applications for user privacy and security.
Reardan said in his blog post that AppCensus first contacted Google about the bug and reported it to the company in October last year. These apps were not removed from the Play Store till March 25.
Google then launched an investigation and removed the app from the Play Store. Google said in a statement that all apps on Google Play must comply with the company’s policy and guidelines. If any app violates the company’s standards then necessary action will be taken.
According to the report, Muslim prayer apps such as Al Moazin and Qibla Compass, which were downloaded more than 10 million times, have also been banned. These apps are said to be used to steal users’ phone numbers, network information and IMEI.
