On Wednesday, jewelery went missing from the lockers of two more customers at the Karachi Khana branch of the Central Bank of India in Kanpur. The customer’s locker was broken into and gold and diamond jewelery worth Rs 50 lakh went missing. A gold necklace worth Rs 2.5 lakh was missing from the locker of another customer.
Jewelery worth Rs 3 crore was lost from nine lockers of the same bank branch in 24 days. On Wednesday, 63 customers checked their lockers. A total of 212 customers have checked the locker so far. On March 14, a lady customer was the first to complain about not opening the bank locker.
When the locker was opened with the help of the locker company, jewelery worth 30 lakhs was missing. When the customers reached the bank on Tuesday after the riots, they checked their lockers but the lockers of seven people did not open. Their lockers were also empty when they were opened with the help of experts.
On Wednesday morning, Shuklaganj resident Sushila Devi along with her two sons Kapil and Vikas Sharma reached the bank to check their locker. A screw in his locker fell off. The key got stuck and the locker didn’t open. Later, the people of the locker company also had to break the locker without opening it.
Sushila said that jewelery worth Rs 50 lakh was missing from the locker. Only a few silver items have been found. On the other hand, Mahendra Kumar Savita and Shailendra Kumar Savita, residents of Koyla Nagar, told that their father is a retired employee of this branch of the Central Bank. There is a safe named after him. The locker was taken from 2011. In the morning, when he reached to check the locker, he found a gold necklace of one rupee. 2.50 lakh were missing, while other items were of silver.
