India will now have 300 weapons and defense systems, Rajnath Singh will announce the list today

Taking a new step towards self-reliance in the defense sector, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will release another list of defense materials on Thursday. This material will be made in the country. Earlier in the year 2020, the first list of 101 materials and in 2021 the second list of 108 tools and other items was released. Now the third list will probably consist of 100 components.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the defense materials included in the lists will be made indigenously by the year 2025. After this their import will be banned. The list released so far includes guns, aircraft, fighter aircraft and equipment used in these and on-board oxygen systems. Defense Ministry sources said that Indian companies will get Rs. Defense orders worth Rs 2.10 lakh crore will be received and it is included in the third list released with production of 100 defense items.

It is noteworthy that after the release of the first and second lists, the Defense Ministry has approved 31 projects worth a total of Rs 53,839 crore. The production of defense material involved in this is being started in the country itself. While Rs. Work is also underway on 83 more projects worth Rs 1,77,258 crore. In the next five to seven years a total of Rs. Work will also be done on domestication of other defense products worth Rs 2,93,741 crore.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that “as part of the third list of items, orders worth over Rs 210,000 crore are likely to be received.” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will unveil a list of key equipment and platforms for indigenization by December 2025.

Former Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia (Retd) said, “It is a focused approach. This will bring self-reliance in the defense sector. It will also contribute to India’s strategic autonomy.” Earlier, the list of 101 and 108 weapons and systems were released on August 21, 2020 and May 31, 2021, respectively.

“On the suggestion of Schedule I and II, agreements have been signed for 31 projects worth Rs.53,839 crore. Requirement Approval (AON) has been given for 83 projects worth Rs.1,77,258 crore. In addition 2 The deal worth Rs 93,741 crore will be taken forward over the next five to seven years.

AON is the first step towards acquisition of military hardware by the Defense Acquisition Council under the Defense Acquisition Rules of India. The weapons and systems included in the first two lists include artillery guns, missile destroyers, shipborne cruise missiles, light combat aircraft, light transport aircraft, long-range land-attack cruise missiles, basic trainer aircraft and multi-barrel rockets. In addition, these include assault rifles, sniper rifles, mini-UAVs, specialty helicopters, next-generation corvettes, airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) systems, tank engines and medium-range surface-to-air missile systems. The ministry said, “The List III notification is a major initiative to achieve self-reliance in defense production. It reflects the growing confidence of the government in local industry.
