According to data from the Union Health Ministry that was last updated on January 13, 174 new cases of Covid were found in India every day, but the number of active cases dropped to 2,257. This small drop comes after 197 cases were reported in the country the day before. The number of deaths has now reached 5,30,725, with two more deaths reported in the last day, one by Kerala and one by Maharashtra. This is according to data that was updated at 8 am.
According to data from the ministry, the daily rate of positivity was 0.9% and the weekly rate was 0.10%. India’s number of active cases dropped by 52 in just one day. It now makes up 0.01 percent of all infections. The website for the health ministry says that the national COVID-19 recovery rate has gone up to 98.80%.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease has gone up to 4,414,775, and the number of people who died from it was 1.19 percent. On the website for the ministry, it says that 220.16 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to people in the country so far.
A senior health official told PTI earlier that two Americans who went to the Taj Mahal on January 10 have tested positive for COVID-19. Dr. Arun Srivastava, who is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Agra, said on Thursday that the two Americans were part of a group that came from Varanasi and was staying at a hotel. Genome sequencing will be done on the samples of the tourists in Lucknow.
A health official said that there were neither new COVID-19 cases nor deaths reported in Chhattisgarh on Thursday. This kept the total number of cases and deaths at 11,77,760 and 14,146, respectively. He also said that the number of cases that were being worked on was still at 11,63,613, so there was only one active case in the state.
On January 12, the Central drug regulatory agency Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) recommended putting the Covid vaccine Covovax on the market as a heterologous booster dose for people who have already had two doses of Covishield or Covaxin.
Earlier, DCGI had approved Covovax for limited use in emergency situations on December 28, 2021, for ages 12–17 on March 9, 2022, and for ages 7–11 on June 28, 2022, as long as certain conditions were met.
Covovax is made using technology that Novavax gave to the company. It has been given conditional marketing authorization by the European Medicines Agency. On December 17, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that it could be used in an emergency.
The Indian government recently gave the green light to Bharat Biotech’s nasal Covid vaccine for adults over 18 years old. It will be used as a heterologous booster dose. Private hospitals will be able to give the vaccine.
