On the one hand, there is a huge protest across the country regarding the Agneepath scheme, in which Home Minister Amit Shah has made a big announcement. As per the decision officially announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been decided to reserve 10 per cent seats for Agniveers, who have completed four years in the same recruitment process as the CAPFs and Assam Rifles under the Agneepath scheme. At the same time, it has been decided to give three years relaxation in age limit in this recruitment. It has also been announced that the concession for the first batch of Agneepath scheme will be for five years.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday held a meeting with the chiefs of the three wings of the Army amid protests across the country over the Agneepath project. In which the Agneepath project and the ongoing Hobla across the country will be discussed.
Significantly, the Army, Navy and Air Force had on Friday announced that the selection process under the new format would be extended till next week due to opposition to the Agneepath Military Recruitment Scheme. On the other hand, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh appealed to the youth aspiring to join the armed forces to start their preparation.
It is worth noting that the central government has announced a new scheme for recruitment in the army. Under the Agneepath scheme, the youth will get an opportunity to serve the country for four years and they will be given a salary and an amount of more than Rs 10 lakh for four years of service. However, there is strong opposition to this plan across the country. Especially in Bihar, even on the fourth day of the protests, the situation is getting worse and there are incidents of arson.
