Gladys Kessler’s Demise
Gladys Kessler was born on January 22, 1938, in New York City, New York. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts and Harvard Law School with a Bachelor of Law. She later worked as a legislative assistant for US Senator Harrison A. Williams and then for US Representative Jonathan B. Bingham. She also worked for the New York City Board of Education before launching her own public-interest law business.
On March 22, 1994, President Bill Clinton nominated Kessler to fill the vacancy left by Judge Michael Boudin in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. On June 15, 1994, the Senate confirmed her, and on June 16, 1994, she was given her commission. She retired on January 22, 2007, and Judge Amy Berman Jackson took her place.
