Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will unveil the list of defense products made in India on Thursday. This will be the third such list in which India will mention those weapons which will be made indigenously in future.
This time there will be more than 100 military systems and weapons in Rajnath’s list, which will be in the country. Import restrictions will also be announced to curb the influx of foreign-made weapons, which will be effective over a period of three-and-a-half years.
The Defense Ministry says that orders worth Rs 2.10 lakh crore will be placed in the country’s defense industry in the next five years for the production of products included in the third list. It is being told that many such important devices and platforms will be included in this list, which will be completely indigenous by 2025. That is, they will be completely made in India.
It is worth noting that the Government of India had earlier issued two lists regarding positive indigenization. Of these, 101 defense products are in the first list. These include artillery guns to short-range surface-to-air missiles, cruise missiles. The first list was released in August 2020.
At the same time, in May last year, the government had released a list of 108 such products, which were to be manufactured in the country in the next four and a half years. These range from weapon systems to next generation warships, early warning systems, tank engines and radars.
After the third list, there will be a total of 300 such products, which cannot be imported after a certain period. This will include everything from armored vehicles to fighter jets and submarines.
