There is bad news for Facebook users as the company is shutting down a feature permanently. Facebook users can no longer host live shopping events on the platform. The Facebook Live Shopping feature will end on October 1, 2022.

The company announced in a blog post that users will not be able to create product playlists or tag products in your Facebook Live videos. Now you must be thinking that why did the company take this decision? In fact, Facebook says it wants to focus more on reels and has therefore decided to discontinue the Live Shopping Events feature.
Livestream Shopping feature on Facebook
The Livestream Shopping feature on Facebook was first introduced in Thailand in 2018. Two years later, it was publicly released to more users in 2020. The feature was intended to provide an interactive tool for creators and brands to sell items while engaging with audiences and acquiring new potential customers.

The company has been testing new features since its launch. Facebook tested ‘Live Shopping for Creators’ in November 2021. It also introduced ‘Live Shopping Fridays’ last year to encourage big brands to try the feature.
Apart from Facebook, TikTok is also planning to expand its live e-commerce tool ‘Tiktok Shop’. This feature was rolled out to users in the UK last year. It allows influencers to sell products via a QVC-style livestream.

“As consumer viewing behavior shifts toward short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Meta’s short-form video product, Reels on Facebook and Instagram,” Facebook said in its blog post. “If you want to reach and engage with people through video, try experimenting with reel and reel ads on Facebook and Instagram.

You can tag products in reels on Instagram to enable deeper searches and views. If you have a store with checkout and want to host a live shopping event on Instagram you can set up Live Shopping on Instagram.”
