Pakistan is facing a political and constitutional crisis. An American expert has said that Imran Khan is playing the American card to build his base. Pakistani President Arif Alvi has dissolved the Pakistani Parliament on the advice of PM Imran Khan. Imran Khan introduced this motion after the Deputy Speaker of Parliament rejected the no-confidence motion as unconstitutional. Pakistani media and opposition parties have criticized the decision, saying it violates all the rules governing the House.
Imran Khan has repeatedly said that America wants to remove him from power. Lisa Curtis, who has served in the Donald Trump and George W Bush administrations, said it was unlikely that any US official would be involved in Pakistan’s internal politics. I think Imran Khan is trying to play the ‘American card’ to get support from his base.
He said that America is working closely with Pakistan on many issues including Afghanistan. In such a situation, America has no reason to demand a change of government in Pakistan. He further said that the US was not too concerned about the changes taking place in Pakistan because any changes to the civilian political system would actually have little impact on the issues that America cares about the most. Lisa said that America wants good relations with those whose government is in Pakistan. The political situation in Pakistan has nothing to do with America.
On one hand, where Imran Khan is spoiling relations with America to save his power, on the other hand Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that Pakistan wants to strengthen its relations with America.
Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has targeted Imran Khan. He has said that Imran Khan has spoiled US-Pakistan relations to save his power. Thirty years from now, no one will even remember who Imran Khan was. People will only remember that a prime minister broke US-Pakistan relations to save his seat.
