Bridge under construction in Leh collapsed due to ‘strong winds’, after 12 hours the bodies of 4 laborers recovered from the rubble

A major accident has happened in Leh district of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Four people died when a part of the under-construction bridge collapsed. Four bodies were pulled out of the rubble on Sunday after a 12-hour rescue operation with the help of Army, Border Roads Organization and Air Force. Two people have been rescued. His condition is serious. He has been admitted to the hospital. The LG of Ladakh has ordered an inquiry.

A part of the bridge built in Nubra sub-division of Ladakh collapsed around 4 pm on Saturday. Six people working there were buried under the rubble, while one was rescued. The bridge was being constructed at Diskit village in Leh district. According to a source, the officials attributed the accident to strong winds. Rescue and relief operations were launched after a portion of the bridge collapsed. LG RK Mathur of Ladakh was himself overseeing the rescue operation.

The bodies of four people were found under the rubble on Sunday after a 12-hour rescue operation, officials said. Two people have been evacuated safely and admitted to the hospital. The injured have been identified as Koki Kumar (Rajouri) and Raj Kumar (Chhattisgarh). Among the dead are Prince and Varinder, residents of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, Manjeet of Chhattisgarh and Luv Kumar of Punjab also died in the accident.

Ladakh Divisional Commissioner Sauda Biswas was coordinating with the forces for relief and rescue operations. According to the spokesperson, the rescue operation was carried out with the help of local Army 102 Brigade, BRO personnel of Project Vinayak and Air Force personnel.
