Breaking News: PM Modi Accuses Opposition Parties of Corruption, Says They’re ‘Coming Together on One Stage’
New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the opposition’s nascent unity over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from parliament today, calling it a “coming together of the corrupt on one stage.” PM Modi targeted the entire opposition in one of his most powerful speeches outside of election campaigns, amid 14 parties’ move to the Supreme Court, alleging misuse of central agencies.
“We are built on a solid foundation of constitutional institutions. That is why, in order to put a stop to India, constitutional institutions are being attacked “PM Modi made the remarks at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
“When agencies act, they are attacked, and questions are raised in court. Some political parties have launched the ‘Bhrashtachari Bachao Abhiyan,'” he said, referring to the “Loktantra Bachao Mashal Shanti March.” “Today, Congress attempted.
The Prime Minister also backed up his party’s claims about using data to combat corruption.
“During the Congress regime, a total of 5,000 crores was confiscated under the PMLA (law against money laundering). However, under the BJP, we have confiscated approximately 10,000 crores. We apprehended twenty thousand economic offenders who had fled “He stated.
According to the Prime Minister, such action is being taken against the corrupt for the “first time in seven decades.” “When we do so much, some people will be upset and angry, but the fight against corruption will not be put on hold because of their (Opposition) false allegations,” he added.

The opposition has frequently complained about the Central Investigative Agencies’ actions against its leaders in recent years. They came together on the issue ahead of the second half of the budget session.
In their petition to the Supreme Court, the opposition parties claim that agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate have only targeted the BJP’s political opponents. The case will be heard in court on April 15.
The Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Janata Dal-United, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), National Conference, Nationalist Congress Party, the Left, and the DMK are among the parties that have filed the case in the Supreme Court.
Mr Gandhi’s two-year prison sentence in a criminal defamation case involving PM Modi’s surname, followed by his disqualification last week, drew unprecedented support from the opposition.
Even rival parties like the Trinamool Congress, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, and Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi have backed Mr Gandhi and condemned the BJP for what they call an attack on democracy.
The support has been welcomed by Congress. Senior party leader Shashi Tharoor called it the “silver lining” of the situation in an interview with NDTV, calling it “exhibit number one in the law of unintended consequences of the BJP action.”
