Authorities said a 76-year-old Manhattan woman died early Friday in a fire that ripped through her apartment according to the (source).
The FDNY said it received a complaint about smoke coming from a second-floor apartment in a building on E. 31st St. near Park Ave. South in Kips Bay around 12:35 a.m. At the scene, the woman was declared dead. Her identity was not revealed right away.

“She was quiet and didn’t go anywhere since her husband died last summer,” said Boris Sufayed, owner of a barbershop near the fire.
Sufayed stated that her husband passed away last summer. “He went to the hospital and never returned.”
“She was a lovely person.” She kept to herself. She smoked a much – she smoked 90% of the time.” The five-story structure houses retail companies on the first floor and apartments above. The fire does not appear to be suspicious, according to police, and the deceased woman may have been overcome by smoke.
