Rising prices of petrol, diesel and CNG have made traveling by private vehicles more expensive. Amidst all this, auto-taxi services may also become costlier, as taxi unions have started protesting the hike in prices. The union has been demanding reduction in VAT to bring down the prices of CNG. It started with a sit-in by drivers under the banner of Delhi Taxi, Tourist Transport and Tour Operators Association on Friday. Dharna in Delhi Secretariat on 11th April and then indefinite strike from 18th April. Association president Sanjay Samrat said the hike in the prices of diesel and CNG has resulted in a huge drop in tourist bookings.
The association said that since the continuous increase in prices is making it difficult to operate taxis, the government should also bring CNG and other petroleum products under the purview of GST. The government should fix the rent at its own level. Also, the government should provide subsidy to the owners of CNG buses and taxis. The government should reduce VAT on diesel as well as on petrol. Along with this, the late fee and penalty at the time of fitness was also removed.
