Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told reporters after attending an event in Mumbai that the total bids made till the fifth day of the auction were worth Rs. 1,49,966 crore has been estimated. The auction results have been very good and telcos have bagged spectrum. 1,49,966 crore has been committed for procurement.

He said the good response given by companies in the spectrum auction that began on Tuesday reflects the maturity of the industry. He said the reserve price fixed for spectrum was the fair price and it is reflected in the auction results. The Department of Telecommunications has offered to sell 72 GHz spectrum worth a total of Rs 4.3 lakh crore in this auction. Apart from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, Adani Enterprises is also participating in this auction.
What is 5G technology?
On the other hand, Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Saturday that the government hopes that 5G services can start in the country from October. Vaishnav told reporters on the sidelines of the ‘Telecom Investment Roundtable: 5G Opportunities in India’ conference here. We are hopeful that 5G services can be launched by the beginning of October and within a year it will have good coverage in the country.
The minister said that the launch of 5G in India will be the fastest as compared to many geographies. “We are confident that we will be able to roll out 5G faster than many other geographies. This is because many of our other expenses are under control,” he added. The auction process for 5G spectrum allocation in the country continued for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday. Till now Rs. 1,49,855 crore have been bid.
