The movie M3GAN from Universal and Blumhouse is going to scare people in ways they can’t even imagine. The main character of the story is the AI companion doll, which was made by a smart roboticist named Gemma. She gives a prototype of the doll to her orphaned 8-year-old niece. But, as all the stories about creepy dolls say, M3GAN goes crazy.

The story was written by horror master James Wan and his longtime collaborator Akela Cooper. They had worked together on movies like Malignant and the upcoming The Nun 2. Cooper talked about writing a much darker version of the movie in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Even though M3GAN has a plot about killer dolls, it has a PG-13 rating, which means it can be watched by a much younger group of horror fans. Interesting things have happened with the movie’s marketing, like when a video of a doll dancing went viral.

At the world premiere of the movie last month, a group of dancing M3GANs greeted the crowd. All of this made fans more excited. Cooper said about the movie’s rating, “Nothing against Universal, I love them, and I get that once the trailer went viral, teenagers were interested and you want them to be able to see it.”

But the writer admits that the original script had a much bloodier version of the movie. “At some point, there should be an unrated version… I heard that it is written down. But, yes, it was a lot worse.”

She went on to say, “In the script, she killed more people than in the movie. It wasn’t as bad as Gabriel in Malignant, but she killed a lot more people. She also said that James said about a couple of characters, “I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live.” I wasn’t kind, but that’s just me. My sense of humor is very dark.”
